Frequently Asked Questions

How has the Zoo closure affected my membership?
Memberships that EXPIRED between March 2020 and the Zoo’s re-opening date will have the number of months missed due to the closure added to their new expiration date upon renewal.

Example: a membership expired in July 2020
That means about 4 months were lost.
Upon renewal, this membership will receive a 16-month membership for the price of 12 months.

ACTIVE memberships as of November 2020 will be paused. Once the Zoo re-opens, members will have 1 month to remove the pause. After the pause is removed, we will add the months missed to the expiration date.

Example: a membership is due to expire in December 2020
That means about 9 months were lost.
These 9 months will be added back to the membership once the pause is removed when the Zoo re-opens.

Memberships that EXPIRED the month of February 2020 and before are NOT eligible for an extension upon renewing.

What if my membership expired before March 2020?
We are focusing on memberships from March 2020 and forward. The Zoo closed on March 19, 2020, due to the coronavirus.

How is the El Paso Zoo Society changing membership cards?
To make check-in easier and contactless, we are switching from a physical membership card to an electronic membership card. Please make sure that your email address is current. If there are any changes in either your email address or your physical address, please contact our office at membership@elpasozoosociety.org. Keep an eye out for an email from membership@elpasozoosociety.org which will contain your new electronic card.

How does the electronic membership card work?
After you have renewed your membership or purchased a new membership, you will receive your electronic PDF membership card from membership@elpasozoosociety.org. Download or take a screenshot of your card and store it on your phone. Feel free to share the email with the other NAMED adults on the membership. If you have questions about your card, and/or how to use it, contact us at membership@elpasozoosociety.org.

I didn’t receive my card, what happened?
Add membership@elpasozoosociety.org to your contact list to ensure that you will receive emails from the El Paso Zoo Society. Check your spam e-mail. Does the Zoo Society have your current email?

As a member, do I need to wear a mask at the Zoo?
Yes, ALL guests and staff are required to wear a mask.

Can I still use my membership to receive discounts on admissions at other AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums?
Your El Paso Zoo membership must be active to receive discounted admission prices. We advise you to call the zoo or aquarium you are visiting ahead of time to make sure they are open and to make sure they still offer discounted prices. Due to the pandemic, some zoos and aquariums are not offering discounts with a reciprocated membership card. Please click the link to see a list of AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums: https://assets.speakcdn.com/assets/2332/ReciprocityChart.pdf

I would like to renew my membership in support of the El Paso Zoo Society. Can I still renew even though the Zoo is closed?
Absolutely! Memberships can be renewed at any time either over the phone or online. Once a membership is renewed, members have the option to pause the account from the renewal date to the Zoo’s re-opening date. For more information about membership pauses, please see the question below. A member can also choose to renew and not pause their membership as a form of a donation to the Zoo Society. We depend on memberships to achieve our mission of supporting the El Paso Zoo, volunteer programs, Zoo Camp, and many conservation efforts we support.

What is a membership pause/time stop?
A pause or time stop on membership is a way to “freeze” the days left on the account. If a membership was purchased March 2020, and it time stopped, this membership will not lose any of the time lost due to the zoo closure.
